A brief history of EFN 584
Built in 1950, EFN 584 spent most of it’s working life in Kent,
starting with The East Kent Road Car company before moving on in

1964.
Saved from an uncertain fate in the mid 1970’s, Messers Adams,
Dawes and Sharp kept EFN stored until 2011 when it passed to

Ken Thompson of Retford.
Ken and his team set about restoring EFN, no small task
considering the vehicle had been off the road for over 30 years with
much of the body needing to be rebuilt and the mechanical side

needing overhauling.
Regardless, Ken’s team certainly conducted a labour of love,

returning EFN 584 to the road in March 2012.

Over the past 4 years, EFN 584 has rolled back the years,
delighting passengers with the charming Art Deco styling of the Park
Royal body (surprisingly considered old fashioned back in 1950!), a

charm we hope you will enjoy.

To start with, all our vintage day trips will be
within a 25 mile radius (approx) of Southam.
More so for EFN than OTA, at 65 years old and
with a comfortable top speed of 45mph, we’re
sure you’ll agree that EFN 584 wouldn’t want to

be overworked in it’s retirement!
We will certainly be looking at longer distance
trips during the summer months with OTA, a
seaside special certainly will not be out of the

question!
All our trips will include a ride through the local
countryside, allowing you a chance to enjoy the
nostalgia of transport from the1950’s and 60’s,
followed by a stop to allow you to stretch your

legs and grab a spot of lunch.
It’s fair to say seats (and people) were smaller 65
years ago, so we will be limiting places on EFN to
allow for the maximum comfort but we are happy

that OTA will seat 38 in comfort, therefore
allowing the maximum amount of people the

chance to enjoy these historic vehicles.

OTA
645G

A brief history of OTA 645G

Built in 1969, OTA 645G was new to Western National as a 45
Seater. It spent much of it’s early life trunking the length and

breadth of England on Express Services (and later National Express)
before leaving for a quieter life in 1981. Over the past 35 years,
OTA has passed through various hands, rarely standing idle before

joining us in December 2016.

Currently seating 38 passengers, the Gardner 6HLX engine and
Semi Automatic gearbox produce a relaxed comfortable ride and,

with a comfortable top speed of 55mph, OTA is perfect for
covering those trips that might be a little far for EFN.

Whilst Midland Red never ran Bristol RE’s, the vehicle was painted
into this period correct livery by a previous owner (who had

purchased the defunct Midland Red Coaches business and name).
We think the 1960’s livery suits the ECW body whilst also
providing a nice link to this well known local operator.
