THE STORY OF AN HOUR

Hodeng was Kankaew's dog. He loved and was faithful to her. When she was
resting in the hospital he never leaves from her. Especially when she was
feeling sad or bored. That’s made her love him very much too. Everyone
knows that Hodeng was friendly. Except for the heartless mother-in-law and a
lustful father-in-law

One year ago, Kankaew married Chonlatarn, and she moved into her
husband's house in Bangkok. But she wasn't happy with an arranged marriage.
Husband's mother pecked her and scolded her mercilessly. Her father-in-law
also tried to rape her when no one was home. Chonlatarn's parents attacked
her even though they knew she was sick and they often attack Hodeng
because they don't like pet.
In this incident, no one knows even Chonlatarn, her husband. When Kankaew
was attacked both physically and mentally. There was only Hodeng with her.

THE STORY OF AN HOUR

One day, Chai heard a nurse say that Dr. Chonlatarn died because of infected
COVID-19. He was shocked, so he hurried to bring the news to Kingyok, both
Chai’s girlfriend and Kankaew’s sister. Kingyok told her, in broken sentences;
veiled hints revealed in half concealing. Her husband's friend Chai was there,
too, near her. He heard the news from Wachiranupap Hospital. The name
Chonlatarn Worachotimethi was the first name on the list of victims from
exposure to high-risk groups of patients infected with COVID-19.

He waited for the announcement on Channel Three HD to confirm the
accuracy and had hastened to forestall any less careful, less tender friend in
bearing the sad message.

Chonlatarn's parents were in shock, and both died at the hospital at the same
time upon hearing the news of the death of their only son.

Hodeng knew that Kankaew was afflicted with heart trouble, So he tried to
protect her from this bad news. He sat down in front of her. He seemed to be
trying to communicate with everyone. “Please great care was taken to break to
her as gently as possible the news of her husband's death.”

What happened,
Chai ?

Please carefully
about this!

If you want
to tell her.

Chonlatarn has died.
How do we tell
his wife?
.

THE STORY OF AN HOUR

She did not hear the story as many women have heard the same, with a
paralyzed inability to accept its significance. She wept at once, with sudden,
wild abandonment, in her sister's and Hodeng’s arms. When the storm of grief
had spent itself she went away to the flower garden alone. She would have no
one follow her. Except for Hodeng, he’s her best friend.

She lay down in a comfortable hammock in the flower garden. Physical
exhaustion haunted her body and seemed to reach into her soul. Of course,
Hodeng was sleeping near to her as well. because he must have felt the sorrow
of his owner and tried to gently comfort her.

She looked at the tops of trees in the flower garden that was all aquiver with
the new spring life. The delicious breath of flowers was in the air. The parrots
she had kept chirping in their cages. A group of teenagers who were singing
and playing guitar came from a house. When Hodeng heard the music.
He immediately howled according to the dog's instincts

Her hammock swung slowly. She was relieved by the passing wind, said,
"Hodeng, you know, you're the only thing that can make me smile and be
happy." He seemed to understand what she was saying. So he moaned in the
throat and went to nestle on her arm again.

I will be with you
forever..

Everything will be fine.
It's okay Kankaew.

THE STORY OF AN HOUR

She was young, with a fair, calm face, whose lines bespoke repression and
even a certain strength. But now there was a dull stare in her eyes, whose gaze
was fixed away off yonder on one of those patches of blue sky. It was not a
glance of reflection, but rather indicated a suspension of intelligent thought.
When Hodeng saw Kankaew's sad expression. So he invited her to ran and
played with him in the flower garden until they feel tired. Then they layed
down on the green grass.

When she ran with him. She was beginning to recognize this thing that was
approaching to possess her and a faint whisper emanated from her thin lips.
She said it over and over under her breath: "free, free, free!". The vacant stare
and the look of terror that had followed it went from her eyes. They stayed
keen and bright. Her pulses beat fast, and the coursing blood warmed and
relaxed every inch of her body. So she hugged Hodeng with joy. When he saw
her smiling and bright face. He was showing a happy expression.

She did not stop to ask if it were or were not a monstrous joy that held her.
A clear and exalted perception enabled her to dismiss the suggestion as trivial.
She knew that she would weep again when she saw the kind, tender hands
folded in death; the face that had never looked save with love upon her, fixed
and gray and dead. But she saw beyond that bitter moment a long procession
of years to come that would belong to her. And she opened and spread her
arms out to them in welcome.

THE STORY OF AN HOUR

She didn't have to live a life of suffering like death. She will only live for
herself and Hodeng. No one will ever hurt them again.

Hodeng knew that she loved Chonlatarn sometimes. But often she didn't feel
love for him at all, even though she knew how much Chonlatarn loved her.
But she still felt lonely and not happy because her husband is busy with work.
He didn’t care about her feelings. He listened to his mother's lies more than
the truth from his wife's. Even though Chonlatarn always said love to her, but
his actions were the opposite. She had lost patience for a long time. She had
applied for a divorce and had asked to move back to Chiang Mai with her
parents, but the husband's mother and Chonlatarn didn’t agree with her.

She can't do anything because her body is not strong. In addition, the property
of money. The husband's mother was the one who arranged everything. So
Hodeng had to protect his owner all the time.

She said "Free! Body and soul free!" she kept whispering.

Free, free, free!

THE STORY OF AN HOUR

Kingyok was kneeling before the fence with her lips to the narrow fence.
"Kankaew, open the door! I beg; open the door you will make yourself ill. It's
going to rain. What are you doing, Kankaew? For heaven's sake open the
door."
"Go away. I am not making myself ill." No; she was drinking in a very elixir
of life through the atmosphere of the flower garden.
Her fancy was running riot along those days ahead of her. Spring days,
summer days, and all sorts of days that would be her own. She breathed a
quick prayer that life might be long. It was only yesterday she had thought
with a shudder that life might be long.

Kankaew, open the door!

Go away!!

THE STORY OF AN HOUR

Someone was walked in. It was Chonlatarn Worachotimethi who entered. He
came home wearing a mask with a sad expression on his face. His face was
filled with tears because he heard from the hospital that his parents had died,
he suddenly stood there baffled by Kingyok's screams and Chai’s quick
motion to screen him from the view of his wife.

But…Chai was too late. Kankaew died from shock. when he saw her
husband's face cause a sudden heart attack. Hodeng was cried next to
Kankaew. He was very sad to see the owner's death. He fell onto the soulless
body of her. His face was filled with tears.

Later, Kingyok and Chai realized that Chonlatarn didn't contract Covid-19
until his death. He was just touching a high-risk group but can heal and
protect himself until he recovers. So the news from the TV. It's just creating a
trend from news agencies only which is not true.

THE STORY OF AN HOUR

When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease of the joy that kills.

THE STORY OF AN HOUR

Hodeng promised himself. This life will not ask to serve anyone other than
Kankaew. Because of his honesty, he suffered until only his last breath was
left. Chonlatarn then gently stroked Hodeng's head and said, “Hodeng, sleep
well. You must be suffering a lot. You go to be a friend of Kankaew. She
must have been waiting for you in the sky.”
Then Hodeng passed away peacefully.
