The Woodcutter and the Golden Axe

In a forest, there lived a woodcutter. One day, the
woodcutter woke up early in the morning and went out for
cutting trees. While cutting the branches of a tree near a
lake, his axe fell into the lake. He had no money to buy an
axe again. The woodcutter became very sad.
Suddenly, the lake goddess came up to the surface of the
lake. She asked the woodcutter, “Why are you sad?“. The
woodcutter said,”My axe fell down into the lake“. On
hearing this, the lake goddess went into the lake to search
for the woodcutter’s axe.
The lake goddess brought a golden axe to the woodcutter
and asked,”Is this your axe?”.

The woodcutter said,”No, this is not my axe“. The
lake goddess again went into the lake and
searched for the woodcutter’s axe.
Now she brought a silver axe to the woodcutter
and asked again,”Is this your axe?“. The
woodcutter answered again,”No, this is not my
axe“. The lake goddess again went deep into the
lake.
She came out of the lake and said to the
woodcutter,”You are a very truthful person“. She
gave the woodcutter his axe and said,”Take the
golden and the silver axe as a gift from me“. The
woodcutter thanked the lake goddess and
happily went home.
